In the Superbowl era, Dallas has been to the NFC^ championship game 16 times going 8 for 16, and thus appearing in 8 Superbowls.  I have highlighted the Dallas Superbowl appearances by coloring the entire line blue, and years in which the Superbowl was won by Dallas are marked with a red *.  In years where the Cowboys made it to the NFC Championship game, but no further, are highlighted with Dallas in blue only.

The Cowboys are 5 for 8 in Superbowls, winning Superbowls VI, XII, XXVII, XXVIII, and XXX (6, 12, 27, 28, and 30 if you don't speak Roman...)

Emmitt Smith was the MVP of Superbowl XXVIII (28).

(^Prior to 1970, these games were the NFL championship as the NFL and AFL were not yet merged to become the NFL as we know it today.  After the merger came realignment creating two conferences, called the NFC and AFC.  The Baltimore team listed before 1970 was the Baltimore Colts, now the Indianapolis Colts, and the Cleveland Browns listed before 1970 are now the Baltimore Ravens, though a new team exists in Cleveland called the Browns (which retains the Browns' franchise statistics, etc., confusingly.)  Both of these teams moved over from the NFL to the AFC after realignment.)
